A Digital Product Passport is the public page behind a product's QR code that shows what it is made of, how to use and repair it, and how to recycle it. Which products need one, and what goes in it, depends on EU rules. Veribl keeps a reviewed catalog of those rules, lets you choose which ones cover each product, and shows how ready each passport is. This article is for the people on your team who prepare passports.

Open the passports overview
Go to Passports. The Overview lists every product with:
- Passport — whether the product needs a passport (see the states below)
- Rules — the rules chosen for it
- Progress — how many items are filled in
- Public passport — the published version, or Not published
Use the filter bar to show products by state. Export report downloads the table as a CSV, and Download backup saves every published version as JSON.
Browse the rules catalog
Go to Passports › Regulations. Each EU rule shows its legal reference, a Status, and when a passport is required. Click a rule to see the items it asks for, where each one is filled in, and which products use it.
The status tells you how firm the rule is:

| Date set in law | The law is adopted and fixes the date the passport becomes mandatory. |
| Planned | Announced in the ESPR working plan, but the act is not adopted. Dates are indicative and items may change. |
The catalog currently has these rules with a date set in law:
- Batteries – Battery passport (Regulation (EU) 2023/1542): passport mandatory from 18 Feb 2027
- Detergents – product passport (Regulation (EU) 2026/405): passport mandatory from 23 Sep 2029
- Toys – product passport (Regulation (EU) 2025/2509): passport mandatory from 1 Aug 2030
The ESPR – Digital Product Passport (framework) rule (Regulation (EU) 2024/1781) has been in force since 18 Jul 2024, but on its own it requires no passport. What goes in a passport, and from when, is set per product group in separate acts. Use the framework rule for a voluntary passport, or to prepare early.
Planned rules (iron and steel, textiles, furniture) show indicative timing only until their acts are adopted.
Veribl reviews the catalog against the EU texts. The Regulations page shows the date it was last reviewed.
Choose the rules for a product
- Go to Passports and open a product. You land on the Checklist tab.
- Under Which rules apply?, tick each rule that covers the product. Veribl may show Suggested next to rules that match the product's category. These are suggestions only.
- If no passport rule applies, tick None of these apply yet. You can only do this when no passport rule is ticked.
To apply one rule to many products, open it under Passports › Regulations and click Apply to products.
You can also click Create rule on the Regulations page to add your own internal rule with its own requirements. Your rules are listed as Your rule and are separate from the EU catalog.
Readiness states
Every product is in one state, based on the rules you chose:

| Required | A rule with a passport date set in law applies (for example Batteries). The pill shows the date. This is the only state that can be behind. |
| Preparing | Only planned rules are chosen. Items are indicative. |
| Voluntary | You chose the ESPR basics for a passport no law requires yet. |
| Not required yet | You ticked None of these apply yet. |
| To review | No rules chosen yet. Choose rules, or confirm none apply. |
The Checklist tab shows a percentage and the number of items still to go. For a Required passport only the required items count. Each item is checked from real data in your account and shows as done or not done, with a link or field to fix it. For example a missing GTIN, materials, a certificate, or a published guide.
Rules you keep on file
RoHS, REACH and the Ecodesign energy rules for displays and household appliances apply today, but they put nothing in a public passport. Veribl lists them as Documents on file on the Checklist: you keep the declarations and test reports and show them to authorities when asked. They are never counted as gaps.
Tip: Start with the products in the Required state, sorted soonest deadline first. The banner at the top of the Overview tells you how many are not ready.
